Did you know that phthalates - the plasticizer chemicals used to soften PVC so it can be used as the vinyl waterproof covering on toddler and crib mattresses - have also been linked to asthma, ADD/ADHD/autism and a number of other problems? Phthalates are also in lots of kids toys. Also, mattresses made with polyurethane foam (which the National Association of State Fire Marshals calls 'solid gasoline') are loaded with toxic chemicals that act as fire retardants. It would be a good idea to get an organic toddler or crib mattress (check Naturepedic - http://www.naturepedic.com) if you don't already have one.
