Wow – time to start planning that perfect gift that will show daddies all over the world they are loved and appreciated. hmmmm it’s not so easy is it? I have become quite practical when it comes to gifts for Ray, but based on the fact that most dads are tough to buy for, here are some green (and one not-so-green) ideas that will appeal to the dad on your gift list.
5. Cell Phone Hands Free Ear Piece:
After watching the Larry King show this week featuring a story on serious health problems caused by excessive cell phone use, I decided this item would be on the dad’s gift idea list. It actually bumped my original pick for a Kodak EasyShare SV811 8-inch Digital Picture Frame out of the running for 5th spot. It’s not a picture or handmade present, but it’s still sentimental because it shows you care about dad’s health. This hands free cell phone ear piece might protect his health in multiple ways as it keeps cell phone radiation away from the brain and keeps hands free if you need them to operate a vehicle. I don’t think Hallmark makes a card for it, but you could work those reasons into giving that special guy this gift. 🙂 Here is a sample of what this device looks like: Cardo Systems Scala 600 Bluetooth Headset, Black
4. T-shirt with child’s footprints:
I love this idea. It is very inexpensive and it gives your present the handmade touch that dad’s appreciate. Everyone needs t-shirts especially with summer approaching and if you have young children, why not capture their little footprints so daddy can wear them proudly? I have done this for Ray twice…for World Cup Soccer in 2002, when Francesco was 2 months old, I got an Italy t-shirt, bought fabric friendly ink, stamped his little feet and captured his footprints on the back of the t-shirt. 4 years later for World Cup 2006, I bought another Italy t-shirt and put Francesco, Angelo, and the girl’s footprints on the back. It’s neat to see the progression in a family if you repeat this gift every few years. Ray loves the t-shirts and I love looking at those cute little footprints on the back. Purchase a hemp or organic t-shirt and this Eco gift cannot be beat! (Quick note regarding stamping footprints and hand prints with children…. both are a great idea for kids 3 years old and up. Babies and toddlers are really hard to get hand prints (especially if you only have one shot at getting it right). Footprints are much easier, just put the object on the floor, stamp or paint the baby’s foot, then have them stand on the item, while holding their foot firmly.)
3. Eco Golf Supplies:
Finally, some awesome green products that dads will appreciate! Why not put together a basket full of favorite green goodies…starting with Eco Golf Balls. They are water soluble and 100% biodegradable. So you can lose them in the lake or sand dunes and not feel guilty! Compliment these balls with Eco Tees. They are a corn based biodegradable plastic that last longer than traditional wooden tees. Throw in a 27oz stainless steel Klean Kanteen water bottle and golfing gift certificate to his favorite, local course, and you’ve got a great present!
2. Push Lawn Mower:
Want to be more eco freindly with your yard-work? Further reduce your gas consumption by replacing your gas mower with an old fashioned Scotts 20-Inch Classic Push Reel Lawn Mower #2000-20. I can’t tell you how many new curse words my kids have learned when I’m trying to pull that *&%@ cord on the gas mower, trying to get it to start, while pumping the button and holding the handle just right. It’s a gong show to watch. It would be so much easier to just whip out the push mower and even let the kids help, rather than going through the elaborate process of getting our gas mower to start each time. The entire family could benefit from this gift for dad.
1. Photo Books by Shutterfly:
Hands down the best present are custom photo books tailored to suit dad. The finished result is unbelievible – this gift rocks for anyone special! You can create photo books through most photo imaging sites, but the Shutterfly books are simply amazing. The quality is excellent and the designs they’ve created turn out great. Go to the Shutterfly website, view a photo book demo, and you’ll be sold! This gift is thoughtful, a beautiful keepsake, and Eco because it’s digital scrap booking. Even if it doesn’t arrive in time for Father’s Day (they do ship to US and Canada – check out their Father’s Day Shipping Guidelines), it’s OK because you can email a copy of the completed book to the dad you’re honoring and it looks breathtaking on-line. Ray gave me a Shutterfly photo book for Mother’s Day and the boy’s are so proud of their father’s creation. Visit Shutterfly and create your custom keepsake today!
