Cranky Pants – Guaranteed To Make You Smile!

It’s not very often an item of clothing makes me gasp in excitement, unless it’s on sale for a great price. Well, a few weeks ago I first saw Cranky Pants.  What a special, unique, adorable, addition to a toddler’s wardrobe.  Check out this picture before I go further so you grasp how cute these are.

Images from Cranky Pant’s site:

Do you not want a pair for yourself? And if you think the classic monster style is cute…check out their sock monkey and jolly roger designs.  They are the cutest thing ever and I’m so glad I didn’t discover this before my twins turned two, otherwise my name would be on the wait-list.  Yes, these little gems are not easy to get your hands on.  The company has forged a partnership with a Fair Trade Federation certified knitting cooperative in Peru, so the growing pains of ensuring their products are ethically produced, has slowed production of these obviously sought out items.  The ‘longies’ are full length, hand knit using 100% wool from the Peruvian Highlands.  Cool to note this company has been around since 2004 and have done an incredible job of growing their company responsibly.  And their customer base agrees!  Cranky Pants will produce ‘custom’ orders but because of the huge demand, they play a lottery system to take these special orders.  You can view some of these custom creations on their blog and OMG….what creative customers and knitters.  Check out this custom creation…

My owl obsession is expanding to toadstools and hedgehogs.  <smile> These ‘longies’ aren’t cheap with a price tag of $80, but some special items are worth the cost…imagine the Fall/Winter pictures of your little person wearing their ‘cranky pants’.  I just love the name and guaranteed it made you smile!

Mommy Footprint News

After spending 5 months of writing daily articles, the Mommy Footprint pace will slow down over the next few weeks.  I need my ‘real’ life organized to gear up for the amazing month of Fall and Halloween activities.  I will be back full force to write about my favorite month (October) and the magic it brings to children.  But before I sign off, there are some topics I need to mention – read on and save money!

A quick mention that our latest contest has wrapped up for the 3-tier stainless steel container and the winner, Jackie, has been contacted.  Thank you for the entries and Healthy Kitchenware for donating the prize.

Over the next few weeks, I will be getting my Christmas shopping completed for my kids.  There are sales happening over the next month that I’ve been waiting all year for!  My boys and I also set a goal of marking all the storm drains with fish decals on our busy street–and it’s a long street!   Besides being on count down mode for the Laity Pumpkin Patch to open, I am excited to start begging a very talented photographer to come out of semi-retirement to photograph my family at the pumpkin patch.  I can’t imagine a better backdrop to capture the wonderful ages of my children.  Her name is Heidi and she is the talent behind my banner photo and any of the black and white photos posted on the Mommy Footprint site.  I can’t believe it’s been 1 year since the last photo session at the beach…it was a wonderful experience and she managed to capture expressions on the faces of my children I could only dream of…not to mention the candid shots.  I promise to post a few after I ‘convince’ her it’s a good idea.  She is talented beyond anything you’ve seen – you can check out her pictures from a beautiful blog she’s created called The Space Between.

The Little Lorax Of Pedagogy Toys & Bamboo Clothing

I’ve been tipped off about a business who’s mission, while helping the environment, is to educate our children – a place called Pedagogy Toys.  You might be still trying to sound out the word ped-a-gogy, (rhymes with ‘pet a doggy’) and it means the science and art of teaching.  You can tell this is their first priority with the store’s eco brands, eco products, and passionate knowledge from the owners.  Co-owner Karen is who I’m referrencing with the description of the little Lorax of Pedagogy Toys.  After visiting the store and spending hours talking about environmental issues, products, and being a mom, I’ve found a kindred spirit and would later gush about the experience.   To quote Dr. Suess “I am the Lorax, I speak for the trees.”  Check out the website or store and you will see these words in action.

As I walked around Pedagogy, the sensitivity to our environment, the store’s global footprint, and locally sourced products kept flooding my senses. Continue Reading →

BioME 5 Organic Kids Tees – Animal Alphabet Project

Where do you start with t-shirts from BioME 5!? There are so many good things about these t-shirts, I’m not sure where to begin. I guess first you can start with the company name because once you learn about the company’s vision, you’ll see the reflection in the clothes. Two architectural designers created the BioME 5 Animal Alphabet Project. The concept was creating a kids t-shirt to become a learning tool, combined with amazing animal images to foster an appreciation for nature’s beauty.

The name BioME 5 was inspired from the Earth’s natural biomes: desert, grasslands, aquatics, forests, and tundra. All of the animals featured on the tees exist in one of these environments. Now, back to the fact these tees were developed by architectural designers, Continue Reading →
